222 mg/dL Head Cold & Tooth Pulled
Having a cold AND a tooth pulled qualifies for stress on the body; especially one with Diabetes. The doc said my BS would run high...just didn't expect them to jump so quickly. Kinda a bummer, totally controllable...but just unexpected. As my body fights off being sick and tries to heal I get high, ha, ha. And the crazy painkillers she prescribed me are not as fantastic as the True Hollywood Stories would have you believe, that is for sure. Oh well, thank god for Soy Dream!!
87mg/dL Step Out!
On October 11th, Team Chávez killed it at Seward Park. We collectively raised $1,600 for the ADA and couldn't have done it without all of our friends/family support! Thank you all SO very much for your support!
PS: Maya wants you to know that this is NOT an accurate photo of us as we were dressed WAY chic-er. Best dressed we must confess....pics to arrive soon.

138 mg/dL Free Strips!! Yay!
So the lovely folks at Accu-Check have granted me free testing strips for a whole year!! Yay! Yesterday I was met at my door by UPS with my first supply; this makes me one happy Diabetic chick! These strips can run you about $1 each and since I need to test my blood sugars 6-10 times a day it can really add up without insurance! Finally some good news. I should probably have that cookie in celebration, eh?

165 mg/dL Stone Cold Stressing
So, today brings about some residual stress from a crazy old boss who is harassing me. And as I try to keep my cool, my blood sugar is rising! It sucks, because I was gonna have a cookie with my afternoon latte. :( Ah well...at least I can go run stairs to alleviate some of this; and I can pretend each one I step on squashes all the hurtful and cruel things she is saying to me. And remind myself that I am bigger than her bullshit. Sigh, I would have rather had the friggin' cookie!

92 mg/dL Get Low
Just back from a quick trip to San Francisco. I love that city...namely because there are SO many great restaurants and bars to visit. The only thing bad I have to say is that my blood sugars were off the charts...mostly super low. I am still trying to master the carbohydrates to insulin ratios when I dine out. Plus, it is really strange for me to excuse myself and run to the bathroom to gobble some glucose tabs or raisins. I don't feel comfortable with notifying the entire table that I am low and "...sorry for being all sweaty and spacey"; I just do not know how to approach it without feeling like I am vying for attention. I am not a fan of this type of attention.

129mg/dL Can you eat that???
Can you eat that???
Okay, I know I am new at this, but it is safe to say that this question is getting annoying. I know people are just concerned, but it is strange to defend eating sweets or any other foods for that matter. I can eat anything I want!! I just have to take the proper Insulin before I do. So if you'll excuse me, I have a date with a cupcake.

283 mg/dL Work Stress
Ugh. Work stress used to be bad enough without Diabetes.
Now I am feeling super aggro and have the blood sugars to prove it! Yikes. The positive is that I can eliminate some of this with exercise says Doctor Molly. Well, if I got my butt outta this chair! I am being proactive though...shopping for a track suit online to be exact. This is totally my style. This is totally my workout. I died a tiny bit when I found it. Click and buy, there IS no substitute!

120mg/dL In Check!
I have NO idea how my blood sugar stayed in check after this morning's breakfast! A $16.58 omelet! I just kindly asked for extra veggies and light hashbrowns (keeping up on my fiber and low on bad starches) HOLY CRAP!! It was delicious and I am pleased that I can still indulge at my favorite greasy spoon.
So this is my New Best Friend. He comes with me wherever I go. I haven't come up with a name for him yet, but he may fall victim to some bedazzling action this week. Stay tuned.

179 mg/dL Sunday Funday
Two Sunday's ago I was gorging on fresh pressed dough nuts and world famous grilled cheese sandwiches from the public market and drinking random rainbow-colored umbrella cocktails with friends. The next day I was at the Doctor's office being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. While Diabetes has affected my father and brother most of their lives, I was always an outsider to the effects and frustrations they experienced. Of course, until now. It has been two weeks since the diagnosis....and I have learned a lot and been frustrated a lot. I wanted to start this blog to chronicle my new life experiences for myself as well as show tribute to my father and brother who have been dealing with this really tough disease since they can remember.
